Not everyone has such an easy time with fashion and the same could be said for plus size jackets. It’s hard enough finding anything that looks nice for women our size in stores so that’s why I like to shop online. While the selection is usually more extensive, the trick can be buying without trying it on. I bought a couple of leather jackets for plus size women and I had to send one of them back because it did not fit properly.
Perhaps you share the same problem as I did…buying things too big. A word of advice if I may- don’t. I know it is easier to say than to do but fit is everything. The first time I learned this lesson I was buying a couple of plus size bolero jackets (actually plus size bolero jackets for evening dresses) and I actually got myself measured first. What a difference!
Looking back at my mistake with the leathers I can now see why. I think sometimes we don’t really want to know our measurements so avoid in having them taken. Well I’m done with that sort of limited thinking. Now you could have a friend help you and maybe that’s the safe thing to do but I just walked right into Macy’s and had a sales girl do it. She was about my size and complimented me on my shoes. Then all I did was find a chart to convert the measurements into accurate sizes.
In that some brands size things differently than others, it doesn’t mean that you will never get an incorrect fit but you can greatly reduce your chances. Just make sure that the site you are purchasing from has a decent return policy. Oh, and if it isn’t one of the more famous brands do a little online research to see if they are legitimate when purchasing plus size jackets.
I realize that not everyone has a strong fashion sense and that is what is so great about catalogs, both print and online. To have the opportunity to see these clothes being worn by someone who is about your size is a big help. I does help if you know how to accessorize because it’s the little touches that go a long way to complete your ensemble.
