Larger women have learned to revel in their big beautiful bodies, and it is about time too. We no longer have to be a slave to the wafer thin runway models that the fashion industry used to cram down our necks (and still do if truth be told). Let those petite things have their anorexia and guilt complexes for eating that tiny square of chocolate. I’m not saying gorge yourself on the latest Swiss confection, but don’t fall for that Madison Avenue hype either.

It is easy these days to find plus size coats that will flatter your own personal shape. This little guide is for you to, hopefully, make your purchase a little easier. First off, dress for the season. You can pretty much get away with having just two coats if you prefer (but really, who wants just two coats?) You can one for spring/summer and another for fall/winter.

For the warmer seasons try to pick up something lightweight. I know everyone says plus size women should stay away from lighter colors but I think this is nonsense, particularly with a lightweight jacket Avoid anything bulky as it has a tendency to bunch up. Something that falls just below the hips, perhaps with a waist belt would look very pretty. This where a light tan or a khaki can really spice things up.

Jackets are generally less expensive than plus size coats, so you may want to purchase one that can be used in many business and social occasions. The same coat can be just as attractive in one setting as another. While I mentioned above that you shouldn’t avoid lighter colors, with a coat you might prefer a navy or brown. Black is always in fashion but don’t be bound by it…live a little!

You need to let your best assets dictate your purchase just the same as any other piece of clothing.
